I have a similar setup, what you see here describe where I work in a TV channel and you can more clearly the difference. With the component cable that you are all kinds of artifacts from the video signal to see, not in the video signal via the HDMI cable.
In this case, go with simplicity. I went to Radio Shack and got a discount from the brand an HDMI cable for $ 20. Works great.
The difference will be there, but how much will depend in large part on the screen from a distance, etc.
HDMI digital connection is digital. Component is digital-analog/analog-digital - so it's definitely a quality loss due to the change.
If your only concern, the cost of HDMI cables - you can get one for $ 5 www.monoprice.com. I use the cable into a high-end system and are very good.
